Leslie Reed

Leslie "Les" Reed age 68, of Pleasantville, Iowa, formerly of Chariton, Iowa, passed away on July 28, 2014 at the Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2014 at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Burial will follow at the Radcliffe Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home.

Les was born in Eldora, Iowa on August 25, 1945 to his parents Ralph and Arlene (Thompson) Reed. He graduated from Steamboat Rock High School and went on to earn his associates degree from AIB College of Business and his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Iowa. Les served his country in the United States Army from 1965 until 1968.

Les was united in marriage to Renee Madden on June 29, 1973 at Water Works Park in Des Moines, Iowa. Together they welcomed two sons into their family. Les worked as the CFO for 3 hospitals during his 40 year career.

Les served on several Lucas County, Iowa boards as well as on several Grundy County, Missouri boards. He loved his horses as well as his miniature burrows. Les also enjoyed raising St. Bernards. He was a fan of Westerns; he especially loved the films of John Wayne. He loved to travel and was an avid collector of antiques especially Oliver Tractors. His true joy in life came from spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He loved to attend all of his grandkids events.

Les is survived by his wife Renee, of Pleasantville, IA; mother Arlene of Steamboat Rock, IA; sons Brett (Heather) Reed of Carlisle, IA and Brandon (Angie) Reed of Prairie City, IA; grandchildren Dylan, Emma, Madelyn and Matthew Reed; brothers Kenneth (Linda) Reed and Doug (Treva) Reed and sisters Pam (Ed) Berends and Denise Matlage. He was preceded in death by his father Ralph Reed and brother Roger Reed.
