Leroy Block

November 3, 1919 — April 19, 2012

Leroy Block 92, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in Grundy Center, Iowa while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, April 23, 2012, at United Church of Christ in Reinbeck, Iowa, with Pastor Joel Love officiating. Burial will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery in Reinbeck. Visitation will be Sunday, April 22, 2012, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. at French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. With a Masonic Service at 6:15 P.M. Memorials may be made to United Church of Christ in Reinbeck or Cedar Valley Hospice, in Leroy's name.
Leroy was born on November 3, 1919 in Reinbeck, Iowa, to his parents Ralph and Alma (Lage) Block. He grew up in the Reinbeck area. Leroy graduated from Reinbeck High School with the Class of 1938. After graduation he helped on the farm before entering the Navy in November 17, 1941 and serving his country during WWII till his discharge on November 12, 1945.
Leroy and Alberta Jensen were united in marriage on May 25, 1946 in Grundy Center, IA. They made their home on a farm south of Reinbeck and welcomed three children to their family. He retired in 1983 and moved to Reinbeck. In April of 2009 they moved to Grundy Center.
Leroy was member of the American Legion Action Post #242, a 50 year member of Coin Lodge #394 both of Reinbeck and a devoted member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ. He will be missed and long remembered by his friends and family.
Leroy is survived by his children Steven (Arlene) Block of Waterloo, IA, Phillip (LaVonne) Block of Gladbrook, IA, Barry (Mary) Block of Grundy Center; his grandchildren Steven Block, Aaron Block, Ryan Block, Adam Block, Jared Block, Regan Dobbs; step grandchildren, Wyatt Hinders, Austin Hinders, Alicia Hinders; and 5 great-grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren and brother-in-law, Burdette(Ruth)Jensen.
He is preceded in death by his parents: his wife Alberta, a brother and sister-in-law, Leo (Elizabeth) Block, sister and brother-in-law, Clara (Harold) Dielman and a sister, Esther.
