Leonard Charles Mumm, 86, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Saturday, January 15, 2011, at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck, Iowa while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Following cremation, Memorial Services will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 20, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Reinbeck, Iowa, with Pastor Terry Plocher officiating. Burial will occur at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 19, 2011, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., at French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Leonard was born February 5, 1924, in Voorhies, Iowa, the son of Charles and Bertha (Mastain) Mumm. He attended country school near Voorhies before attending Reinbeck schools, graduating from the Reinbeck High School in 1941. After graduation he helped area farmers, before entering the heavy construction business of building bridges. On June 2, 1956, Leonard was united in marriage to Dorothy "Dot" Donlea at the United Methodist Church in Winthrop. After their marriage they moved to Voorhies. Leonard started working for P.C.I. in 1970 and retired from there after 32 years of service. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Reinbeck. He was an excellent woodworker, and made a number of various crafts for family members and friends. Leonard was a member of the horseshoe club, enjoyed golfing and dancing. Leonard loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his children- Kathy Gaskins and her husband David of Roseville, California; Linda Breault and her husband Chuck of Twin Falls, Idaho; Norris Schuman and his wife Mary of Reinbeck; Jon Schuman of Santa Ysabel, California; Cathy Schabacker and her husband Rodney of Winthrop, Iowa; Debra Robertson and her husband Steve of Reinbeck; Carolyn Ballard and her husband Doug of Reinbeck; Mari Bean and her friend Rick of Waterloo, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Richard(Margaret) Mumm of Voohries, John (Millie) Mumm, Wilber Mumm both of Hudson and Garry (Avon) Mumm of Albany, Oregon; three sisters, LaVonne Kerr, Marlys Keith both of Hudson and Charlene (Herb) Begley of Russell Springs, Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dot; one granddaughter-L.W. Ballard; and two brothers, Kenneth and Raymond.
