Leona M. Froning, 101, of Eldora, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the Eldora United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Eldora City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Leona was born on October 10, 1909 to I.W. "Bill" Moulton and Lydia Louise (Klaist) Moulton in Cottonwood County, Minnesota on the family farm. The family moved to Waverly, Iowa when Leona was 5 years old. She graduated from Waverly High School and graduated from Cornell College, majoring in music. She was united in marriage to Merle F. "Bud" Froning in 1934 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Two sons were born to this union, Craig O. and Bruce E. Froning. She taught music in the Eldora school system until her retirement in 1975. Leona played the organ for many years at the Eldora Methodist Church and directed the choir. She also played at the UCC Church in Eldora for 15 years. Leona lived in her home in Eldora until she was 100 years old and then moved to Valley View Nursing Home in Eldora.
Leona is survived by her son Craig (Kay) and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Merle, son Bruce and her 2 sisters Evelyn and Edna.
