Leon K Doughty was born in Eldora, Iowa to Linus and Myrtle (Kirkdorffer) Doughty on February 18, 1935.  He passed away on December 15, 2022 at Creekside Senior Care in Grundy Center, Iowa.  He was preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish Leon's memory are his wife Mary Ellen, children Kelley (Darwin) Sents, Steve Doughty, and LeAnn Doughty, grandchildren Cory Sents, Kelsey (Craig) DeLong, Riley (Brock) Rohler, Mary (Chandlor) Collins, Dillon Rubow, Luke Rubow and great-grandchildren Madeline and Beckett DeLong and Zai Collins, and his brother Loren (Dorothy) Doughty and many nieces and nephews.

 

Leon graduated from Eldora High School in 1953, then attended the University of Iowa.  He married Mary Ellen Krause on September 23, 1956 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Eldora.  He farmed his family's century farm until his retirement in 1997.  He spent his retirement years in Clear Lake and later in Naples, Florida.  He loved snowmobiling, boating, entertaining with his joke telling, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.  His smile would light up a room and was often the life of the party.

His family always came first and loved attending ANYTHING his kids or grandkids were involved in.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church in Eldora, Iowa on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 11:30am.  Preceding the funeral will be a Rosary at 9:00am followed by visitation.  All attendees are invited for a meal following the funeral at Gehrke's Shed, 1611 3rd St. Place, Eldora.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a later donation of their choice.
