Leola Mae Hook 96, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Saturday, August 23, 2014, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014 10:30 A.M. at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2014, from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M. at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, Iowa. Burial will follow funeral services at the Holland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Leola Mae was born June 2, 1918, in Grundy County, the daughter of William Sr. and Hannah (Lindaman) Hinders. She attended school at Colfax #9. On February 14, 1940 she was united in marriage to Alvin Hook. The couple made their home in Grundy County. Leola enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She prepared many Sunday dinners for her family and always had the coffee pot on for guests. She was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church of Holland. Leola became a resident of the Long term care unit in Grundy Center in December of 2012.
Leola is survived by one daughter, Paula (Allen) Cramer of Grundy Center; two grandchildren, Chad Cramer and Jodi (Mark) Appel all of Grundy Center: two great grandsons, Brady and Chase Appel of Grundy Center; two step- great grandchildren Austin Appel of Cedar Falls and Kaylie Appel of Waterloo; two sisters, Iva Dean Rademaker of Ankeny, Marlys Wilts of Holland; one brother, Ray (Mae) Hinders of Holland; sister-in-law- Alice Hinders of Reinbeck, plus many nieces and nephews.
Leola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter Marilyn Smith; two brothers, William Jr. (Coolie) Hinders and Marvin Hinders and son-in-law Don Smith.
