Leo Eugene Huisman, 72, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Grundy Care Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2014 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Leo was born on December 27, 1941 in Eldora, Iowa, the son of Eugene and Helen (Hess) Huisman. Leo was the manager of both the football and basketball teams at Grundy Center High School. He graduated from Grundy Center High School with the Class of 1962. A very special day for Leo was the day he earned his driver's license. Leo attended the University of Northern Iowa, where he was an honor student. Leo was a very hard worker. He worked as a traveling salesman in Grundy and adjoining counties. He also worked as the manager of a used book store in Iowa City.
Leo was very religious and had a special relationship with Christ. He loved to fish with his Dad, duck hunt and play cards. His true joy in life came from spending time with his friends and family, especially his niece Linnsey and nephew Marshall.
Leo is survived by his mother, Helen Huisman of Holland, IA; brother Bob (Ruby) Huisman of Clinton, MO; nephew Marshall Huisman of Clinton, MO (his fiancée Keri Sanders) and niece Linnsey Huisman of Waterloo, IA (her friend Dylan Sires). He was preceded in death by his father Eugene Huisman.
