Leland Huisman

Leland Duane Huisman, 78, of Parkersburg, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at the Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington, Iowa.

Leland was born February 12, 1930, in Holland, Iowa, the son of Jerry D. and Swanetta ?Nettie? (Ross) Huisman. He was raised near Holland, Iowa, and attended school thru the 10th grade. He served his country in November of 1951 and served in Korea. He was discharged in November 1953. He married Mary Ann Eckhoff on June 29, 1954 at the Baptist Church in Parkersburg. They had four children Dennis, John, Larry and Marsha. Leland worked as a hired hand for Richard Rykena before he went to work for Butler County working in the Road Department. He then started working for the City of Parkersburg. Mary Ann passed away April 21, 1985. Leland married Carol Ann Jansen on June 12, 1987 at the Methodist Church in Parkersburg. Leland retired in 1993 after working for the City of Parkersburg for over 35 years.

Leland was a member of the United Methodist Church in Parkersburg, the American Legion for over 53 years and the Korean War Veterans Association.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Huisman of Parkersburg, Iowa; 3 sons: Dennis and his wife Mary Huisman of Aplington, Iowa, John and his fiancAC.e Brenda Buseman of Parkersburg, Iowa and Larry and his wife Becky of Cedar Falls, Iowa; a daughter Marsha and her husband Ted Schultz of Grinnell, Iowa; 6 grandchildren: Travis and Kasey, Brandon and Abby, and Michael and Matthew; 2 brothers: Donald and his wife Grace Huisman of Wellsburg, Iowa and Raymond Huisman of Grundy Center, Iowa; and a sister: Imogene and her husband Harlan Kolthoff of Wellsburg, Iowa; and his 2 dogs: Poncho and Angel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Mary Ann; sister in law: Charlotte Huisman; and his step ? mother: Fannie Huisman.
