Lee Boomgarden

September 11, 1935 — June 5, 2013

Lee N. Boomgarden, 77, of Wellsburg, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 10th at 10:30 A.M. at the United Reformed Church, 608 S. Adams St., Wellsburg. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 9th from 3 to 5 P.M. at the Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Burial will follow funeral services at the First Christian Reformed Church, rural Wellsburg. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Valley Hospice or to the family.

He was born on September 11, 1935, in Wellsburg, the youngest of four boys to Jake & Etta (Smidt) Boomgarden. He grew up in Wellsburg and attended school in both Eldora & Steamboat Rock, graduating with the class of 1953 at the Steamboat Rock High School. From 1958 until 1960, Lee honorably served his country in the United States Army. On April 27, 1962, Lee was united in marriage to Imogene Geerdes. The couple welcomed two sons into their family. He worked as a manufacturer in the plastics business, working for Plastronics in Grundy Center and later opening his own plastics company named Threebee Plastics in Wellsburg. Lee & Imogene lived most of their married life in Wellsburg.

Lee enjoyed to fish but what he truly enjoyed most out of life was his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Imogene of Wellsburg; sons Gary (Kathy) Boomgarden of Cedar Falls & Brian (Karen) Boomgarden of Wellsburg; 2 grandsons Trenton & Kyle Boomgarden and 2 granddaughters Allison & Macy Boomgarden; 3 brothers Lloyd (Rowena) Boomgarden of Denver, CO, Heinie (Judy) Boomgarden & Ralph (Maxine) Boomgarden, both of Eldora; many nephews & nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.
