LeAnn Bettenga

September 4, 1932 — November 26, 2017

LeAnn M. Bettenga, 85, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the Bethany Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Memorial to the American Diabetes Association.

LeAnn was born on September 4, 1932 on a farm in rural Holland, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ben & Grace (Lupkes) Venenga. LeAnn graduated from Grundy Center High School in the class of 1949. She was united in marriage to her husband Paul F. Bettenga on March 21, 1950 at the Bethany Presbyterian Church. Together they welcomed four children into their family.

In addition to being a wonderful mother and wife, LeAnn worked for the Spokesman Press for over 25 years. She also worked for many years as an administrative assistant at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center and as the caretaker & organist/pianist at the Christian Reformed Church of Holland.

LeAnn was a long-time member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church and an active member in both the Grundy Center Women’s Club and the Pine Lake Saddle Club. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and playing the piano. However, her true joy in life came from spending time with her family.

LeAnn is survived by her son Jay (Alice) Bettenga; grandchildren Paul, Jennifer & Daniel Bettenga and Jody & Kyle Curren; her sisters Doris Roberts, Marcia Stumpf & Rebecca Jacobs and many nieces and nephews & grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul; children Beth Ann Bettenga, Craig Allen Bettenga & Lisa Jean Curren; siblings Bernard Venenga, Darrell Venenga, Carol Holmes, DeElda Zumbrunnen, Elton Venenga and Keith Venenga.
