LaVonne "Bonnie" Conrad , 75, of Holland, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2011 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit while under the care of the Cedar Valley Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 21st at 10:00 am at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 20th from 5 to 8 pm at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Burial will follow funeral services at the Holland Cemetery in Holland.
Bonnie was born on May 4, 1936 in Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Edward & Etta (Venenga) Brower. She grew up on the family farm in Hampton and lived there for several years before moving with her family to Holland, where she has been a lifelong resident. She attended Holland grade school and later attended school in Grundy Center. After high school, she went to work at Lindaman's Grocery Store and then began her career in healthcare at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. She worked as a nurse's aide, was the activity director and was the head of the laundry department, retiring in 1995. She also sold AVON in Holland for many years. During her first marriage, she welcomed two children, Jeffery and Glenda. On July 2, 1973, Bonnie married Dick Conrad in a Presbyterian church in Wisconsin. The couple made their home in Holland, and spent their winters at their home in Branson, Missouri.
Bonnie was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center and was a past member of Rebecca's Lodge in Reinbeck.
She enjoyed wintering with her husband Dick in Branson, collecting dolls, baking and following her grandchildren's activities. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Bonnie is survived by her husband Dick of Holland; daughter Glenda (Jerry) Moeller of Holland; grandchildren Michael, Lance & Jennifer Moeller; step-children Elizabeth (Richard), Doug, Tom & Susan (Josh); several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward & Etta; step-father Chris Sonnenberg; son Jeffery; step-son Robert; sister Leona Anderson; step-brothers Benjamin & Delbert Sonnenberg and step-sister Helen Hartford.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family, where they will designate gifts to a charity of their choice at a later date.
