LaVern Boelts

December 5, 1930 — June 14, 2006

LaVern J. Boelts, 75, of Wellsburg, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at his home, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, June 17, 2006, at West Friesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley, Iowa, with Charles Westendorf officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, June 16, 2006, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg, Iowa, with the family present to greet friends. Memorials may be directed to West Friesland Presbyterian Church or to Cedar Valley Hospice.



LaVern was born December 5, 1930, near Aplington, Iowa, son of Herman and Tena (Huisman) Boelts. He attended country school in Butler County and on October 11, 1950 was united in marriage to Marion Siems at the Washington Reformed Church, rural Ackley. He was a longtime salesman of agricultural products, selling for Moorman's Feed and Na-Churs Fertilizer. LaVern began farming in 1970, semi-retiring in 1992. He was a member of West Friesland Presbyterian Church where he had served as elder, deacon, and Sunday school teacher for 7th and 8th grades. He enjoyed woodworking, carving, and painting along with spending time with family and friends.



Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Marion; son, Ron and his wife Terri of Wellsburg; son, Leon and his wife, Phyllis of Wellsburg; son, Darwin, and his wife, Maribeth of Cedar Falls; grandchildren, Adam, Hannah, Will, Chelsea, and Dillon; and brother, Marvin and his wife, Betty of Wellsburg. Preceding him in death was his parents; sister, Ruth Boekhoff; and brother, Herman.
