Laurence G. Graves, 66, of rural Holland, Iowa, went to be with his Savior on Monday, April 7, 2008, at his home, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M., Thursday, April 10, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Mike Nemmers and Pastor Larry Hoop officiating. Burial will follow at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery, rural Holland, Iowa. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 9, 2008, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice-Grundy Center, or to First Baptist Church.
Laurence Gene Graves was born March 11, 1942, in Eldora, Iowa, the son of John E. and Grace (Hook) Graves. He graduated with the Grundy Center High School Class of 1960. On June 23, 1961, he was united in marriage to Sharon Cuffel at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland. They lived and farmed the family farm until 1985. They then moved to their present home in rural Holland. Laurence trusted Jesus Christ at an early age and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center, serving as a Trustee. Prior to joining First Baptist Church, he had served as an Elder, Deacon, and Trustee at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. He treasured his faith in God and his family. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events. He loved farming with his son and grandson and going to Florida and Arizona in the winter.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharon Graves (of 47 years) of rural Holland, Iowa; his son, Scott Graves and his wife Denise of rural Grundy Center, Iowa; his three grandchildren, Justin, Jenn, and Abby Graves; his sister, Ruth Thoren and her husband Chuck of Grundy Center, Iowa; and two nieces, Kimra Venenga and her husband Kevin of Mantorville, Minnesota; and Molly Sherman and her husband Tom of Sunnyvale, California.
In death he has rejoined his beloved son Todd, and his mother and father.
