Larry K. Beck, of Grundy Center, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. All services will be private.
Larry was born on June 8, 1939 in Spencer, Iowa, the son of Irvin & Jean (Bixler) Beck. He grew up in the Spencer area and after high school, Larry enlisted in the United States Navy where he spent over 20 years of his career, retiring as Chief Petty Officer. On March 15, 1971, Larry was united in marriage to Susan Lenz in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The couple relocated back to Iowa and made their home in Grundy Center in 1991. Larry later attended the University of Northern Iowa and received his Bachelor's Degree and furthered his education with a Master's Degree in Art. Larry took his Master's Degree and worked as an instructor at both Hawkeye Community College and UNI and taught art history and studio classes. He retired in 2002. Larry and Susan had also previously owned and operated photography studios in both Michigan and Wyoming.
He is survived by his wife Susan of Grundy Center; 4 grandchildren & 2 great-grandchildren; sisters Cindy Bowers of Ames & Linda Glasscock of Van, Texas; 3 nephews and 1 niece; he was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Kim Dockery.
