Kenneth K. Kahl, 86, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Monday, January 31, 2011, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Friday, February 4, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Matt Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 3, 2011, from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church.
Kenneth Kay Kahl was born June 10, 1924, in Grundy Center, Iowa, the son of Lester and Alma (Popp) Kahl. He was raised in Grundy Center, Iowa, and graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1941. Kenneth served his country proudly in the United States Army from September 23, 1942, to December 10, 1945. On September 11, 1951, in Plainfield, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Anna Margaret Lynes. The couple made their home in rural Grundy Center where they farmed most of their married life. They moved to town in 1997. Kenny loved to cook and tend his garden where he raised tomatoes, jalapeno peppers and horseradish. Kenny also enjoyed traveling with Margaret to Wyoming and Colorado to visit friends and relatives. Kenneth was a member of the Grundy Center United Methodist Church for over 60 years. He was a member of the 40 and 8, American Legion Post #349- AMVETS Post #17 and the Masonic Emerald Lodge #334 all of Grundy Center. Kenny loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his children: Nancy Fairbanks and her husband Craig of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Susan Bullis and her husband Craig of Adel, Iowa, Lynn Carlson and her husband Randy of Waukee, Iowa, Steven Kahl and his wife Jane of Fishers, Indiana, James Kahl and his wife Tracy of Grinnell; 7grandchildren: Jeff Hawk, Jessica Brant, Nathaniel Kahl, Timothy Kahl, Megan Bullis, Michael Bullis, Alissa Kahl; 2 step grandchildren, Brock Fairbanks and Laura Kockelkorn; 5 great grandchildren: Hunter Hawk, Anabeth Hawk, Piper Hawk, Garinn Brant and Chase Brant, and 7 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; and brother, Howard Kahl.
