Keith A. Venenga, 64 of Grundy Center, Iowa passed away Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Grundy County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 3, 2011 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, Iowa. Burial will follow the funeral service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. A visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Bethany Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Keith was born on December 27, 1946 in Eldora, Iowa to his parents Ben and Grace (Lupkes) Venenga. He was raised on the family farm in rural Grundy Center. He graduated from Grundy Center High School with the Class of 1964. Keith joined the Army Reserves and served from 1966 through 1972. He was united in marriage to Elaine Bakker on March 4, 1966 at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church. Keith and Elaine made their home in Grundy Center and welcomed three children into their family.
Keith began his career at John Deere in Waterloo and then went to work as a mechanic at Joe's DX Station. He worked as a mechanic and other various positions at the Van Wechel Motor Company. He was employed for the last 31 years as an Ag Salesman with Phelps Implement where he enjoyed assisting and interacting with his customers.
Keith was a life long member of Bethany Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, a trustee and taught Catechism. He was a past member of the Grundy Center Kiwanis Club and served for many years on the Grundy Center School Board as Secretary. Keith enjoyed tinkering, whether on the family farm or in his garage. His "baby" was his 1963 ½ Ford Galaxie 500. Keith took great pride in his children and their accomplishments. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his pride and joy were his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Elaine; children Kevin (Kimra) Venenga, Kent (Jenn) Venenga, and Emily (Jason) Schuneman; grandchildren Kalianne, Kyle, Tyler, Paige, Erica, Bryce and Trevor; mother-in-law Gladys Bakker; brothers Bernard, Darrell and Elton Venenga; sisters LeAnn Bettenga, Doris Roberts, Marcia Stumpf and Becki Jacobs and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Carol Holmes and DeElda Zumbrunnen.
