Katie Magdalene Linder was born on September 2, 1907 in Wilster, Germany, daughter of Johann and Emma (Schultz) Klaaschen. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 17, arriving at Ellis Island on February 23, 1925. Upon arriving, she moved to Morrison, IA. Katie married Fritz Linder on December 27, 1927. Together, they farmed near Morrison. Fritz died in 1943. Katie married Emil Linder on December 11, 1944. The couple also farmed before moving into Reinbeck in 1974. Emil died in 1985.
Katie?s family dearly loved her talent for baking, canning and cooking family meals. Katie enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling and visiting with friends and family over coffee and cookies.
Surviving relatives include four daughters, Norma Hoelscher of La Porte City, IA, Marlyn Linder, Elinor Johnson both of Reinbeck, IA, Karen (Richard) Steele of Verona, WI; six grandchildren, James (Jennifer) Hoelscher, Tammy Steele, Tim (Tabitha) Steele, Matt (Beth) Schlueter, Steve (Joan) Hoelscher, Jerriene (Al) Harper; eight great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Katie?s family in Germany include her nephew Horst (Renate) Horstmann and their children Jon (Kirsten) and Astrid (Uwe) Schmitz.
