Kathryn L. Palmer, 87, of Grundy Center , Iowa , died Monday, July 21, 2008, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital-Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center , while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Private family graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center . Visitation will be Friday, July 25, 2008, at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center , Iowa , from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., where the family will be present to greet friends. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center , or to Cedar Valley Hospice-Grundy Center site.



Kathryn was born October 2, 1920, in Grundy Center , Iowa , the daughter of Raymond and Leona (McCullough) Taft. Kathryn attended Grundy Center Schools and graduated with the Grundy Center High School Class of 1938. She furthered her education by attending Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls . On March 12, 1942, Kathryn was united in marriage to Carl Jefferson Palmer. After their marriage they made their home in Grundy Center , where Kathryn served as the church organist at First Presbyterian Church for twenty-five years. She also taught piano lessons to many children in Grundy Center , throughout the years. Kathryn’s husband Carl died on June 9, 2002, and she continued to make Grundy Center her home.



She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center . Kathryn devoted her life to her music and her family.



She is survived by two sons, Ron Palmer and his wife Sherry of Decatur, Illinois; and Ed Palmer and his wife Pat of West Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren, Brian Palmer; Brad Palmer and his wife Amy; and Brooke Palmer; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Hayden Palmer; and, one sister-in-law, Dorothy Palmer of Grundy Center , Iowa



She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Carl; and one brother, James Taft.
