Kathryn Marie Ringena Nederhoff, 79, of Wellsburg, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the Maple Manor Village in Aplington while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Christian Reformed Church in rural Wellsburg. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 8th from 4 to 7 P.M. at the church and one hour before the funeral service at the church. Burial will follow funeral services at the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Valley Hospice or to the Parkinson's Research Foundation.

Kate was born on September 9, 1933 in Grundy Center, Iowa, the daughter of George & Hannah (Feenders) Ringena. She attended Hudson schools and graduated from the Wellsburg Community High School in 1952. She worked at Boeke Drug Store in Wellsburg.

On September 16, 1953, she was united in marriage to Carl H. Nederhoff at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. The couple moved to the Nederhoff home place where they farmed and milked cows, where she enjoyed being a farm wife. She became a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in 1953. They are the parents of 4 sons, Mike, Bruce, Kevin & Jeff.

Kate taught Sunday School and was a member of the Timothy Sisters, Queen Esthers Society and the Ladies Guild Society. In November 1990, Carl & Kate moved into the town of Wellsburg after farming and milking cows for over 37 years. She also helped her son Mike in the grocery store for many years. Kate enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, family gatherings, reunions, gardening, cooking and family vacations. She also prepared many meals for the family during planting and harvest time. She enjoyed hosting relatives from Germany and traveling to Germany and the Netherlands to visit family. Carl and Kate also enjoyed coffee time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Carl H. of Wellsburg; sons Mike (Mary Jean) & Kevin (Beth) of Wellsburg, Bruce (Dorinda) of Grundy Center and Jeff (Wendi) of Greene; 10 grandchildren Jonathan (Megan) Nederhoff and Anthony Nederhoff of Wellsburg, Brooke (Paul) O'Kane of North Liberty, Brianne & Brittane of Grundy Center, Alex, Austin & Aaron of Wellsburg and Cody & Karly Nederhoff of Greene; great-granddaughter Emma O'Kane; sister Wilma (Delbert) Ross and brother John (Thelma) Ringena; in-laws Donna Blythe, Ordie Eekhoff, Florence Nederhoff & Rodney Deters; extended family in Germany & the Netherlands. She was preceded in death by her parents & granddaughter Anna Marie Nederhoff; brother George Ringena.
