Karen Klein

August 4, 1945 — April 25, 2014

Karen Ann Klein, 68, Grundy Center, IA, formerly of Waterloo, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 29th at 11:00 A.M. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Rosehill Cemetery in Grundy Center. The family requests memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice, 310 E. G Ave., Grundy Center, Iowa 50638.

Karen was born August 4, 1945 in Waterloo, the daughter of Milton "Mike" Klein and Viola "Vi" (Griesbaum) Klein. She attended Columbus High school in Waterloo. She moved to Grundy Center where she established the Country Drive-in Restaurant which she owned for 25 years. She then opened the Corner Consignment Shop which was in business for ten years, also working as a cook during this time for Johnny Rays Restaurant in Grundy Center. She retired in 2012. She was an avid sports fan and loved to attend Grundy Center High School events.

Survivors include one sister Sr. Janice Klein, OSsR of Liquori, MO and 3 brothers Gary Klein of Roanoke, VA, Ron Klein of Minneapolis, MN and Joe Klein of Denver, CO; her best friends Fran Ash, Dotti Thompson & Johna Ash of Grundy Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Vi Klein; brother James Klein and sister Shirley (Klein) Soltis.
