Karen Foede, 77, passed away on November 25, 2020 with Beth, her daughter, by her side and Paula on the phone. Karen was born August 16, 1943 in Donnelly, MN at home to Joseph and Bertha (Krienke) Mau. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on June 12, 2021 at the Delano American Legion Post 377. The address is 240 Babcock Blvd. W Delano, MN 55328.
Karen graduated from Delano High School in 1961. When her daughters attended Mt. Olive Lutheran school, she volunteered in the kitchen and as a teacher's aide. She had a special place in her heart for children and seemed to connect with all ages at the school making an impact on several of them. She also worked various jobs which included a waitress at BoDo's Cafe where she was able to meet numerous people and start her social circle. She then became a bartender at the American Legion club and subsequently became one of the primary bartenders for several years at the Delano Municipal On/Off Sale known as "The Zoo.” Karen was very well liked by everyone who met her and because of her love and caring for others, many patrons referred to her as "Mom.” Karen was always willing to listen to your problems and provide heartfelt advice.
Karen started another chapter in her life when she learned to drive an 18-wheeler. She drove as a team and visited all 48 states. Now her circle of acquaitances were across the entire USA. She collected even more interesting and sometimes hilarious stories throughout her travels.
Karen struggled with various health issues the past 7+ years where family and friends supported her as much as they could with love.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents Bertha and Joseph Mau, her brothers Erv and Joseph Mau; sisters Delores Mau and Betty (Mau) Johnson; and sisters-in-law Peggy Mau and JoAnne Mau.
Karen is survived by her daughters Beth (Jeff) Foede-Werkman and family including Rachel; Paula Foede and family including Ellen and Amanda Lerbakken; and sister Fran (Kenny) Habisch.
