June Marion Hamilton, 98, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died on December 18, 2024. June was born June 11, 1926, on a farm west of Lincoln, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harry and Selma Schulz. On July 24, 1947, June married Alvin F. Hamilton at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center. Alvin passed away on June 14, 2010, shortly before their 63rd wedding anniversary.
June graduated from Reinbeck Consolidated High School in 1943. After graduation, she moved to Grundy Center and worked at the Grill Cafe. She then started working at the O.P.A. Office (Office of Price Administration), also in Grundy Center.
Never one to be idle, June helped organize the Lincoln Gals’ 4-H Club and served on the Tama County Extension Board. She helped out at the Lincoln Co-op’s fertilizer office and even made work-related runs with Alvin. She was a talented seamstress, an active gardener, and a gracious hostess. She and Alvin were known to appear in disguise at various events on Halloween, surprising their children and friends alike. Vacations often included camping and fishing; June was, without a doubt, the champion angler, catching the most and the largest fish every time. After retirement, June and Alvin spent winters in South Texas where she competed in many shuffleboard tournaments. Her competitive spirit was even evident at Arlington Place where she lived for almost nine years until her passing.
June is survived by two daughters, Marsha (Mark) Hamer of Coralville, Iowa, and Denise (Mark) Schryver of Longmont, Colorado, and son Steve Hamilton (Lori Sanderson) of Gladbrook, Iowa. She also leaves four grandchildren: Todd Hamer, Matt Hamer, Sara (Paul) McElroy, and Jay (Susan) Schryver along with eight great-grandchildren.
June was preceded in death by husband Alvin, her parents and siblings, Gladys (Wayne) Lear and Leonard (Joan) Schulz.
Services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 23rd, with visitation at 9:30 at Abels Funeral and Cremation Service, 509 4th Street, Grundy Center, Iowa. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery north of Gladbrook, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 21275 U Avenue, Reinbeck, Iowa 50669 or St. Croix Hospice, 6112 Chancellor Drive, Cedar Falls, Iowa 50613.
