Juanita Rowen

Juanita H. Rowen, 89, of Eldora, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, September 24, 2007, at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, Iowa, with Pastor Corey Larson officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memory Garden Cemetery in Eldora. Visitation will be Monday morning for one hour prior to service time from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora. .

Juanita Helen Rowen was born December 5, 1917, in Elkhart, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Lulu (Woody) Lawson. She was raised by the Keller family in Elkhart, and graduated from Elkhart High School with the class of 1937. After high school, Juanita continued her education, taking training to become a court reporter. In September, 1940, Juanita was united in marriage to Deane McDowell in Ames, Iowa. After their marriage, they moved to Eldora to make their home. Juanita worked for Dr. Rogers as his nurse for many years. She later went on to work at the State Training School in the business office, working as a bookkeeper until her retirement. In 1976, Juanita was united in marriage to James Rowen in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They continued to make Eldora their home. In 2001, her husband James died.

Juanita was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora. She loved to flower garden and took much pride in caring for her lawn. Juanita loved to collect recipes.

She is survived by one son- John McDowell and his wife Linda of Green Bay, Wisconsin; one daughter-Nancy Higgason and her husband Max of Eldora, Iowa; six grandchildren-Christopher Howells and his wife Trina; Matthew McDowell; Jaime McDowell; David Higgason and his wife Jodie; Penny Brown and her husband Dan; Christy Smith and her husband Aaron; seven great-grandchildren; and two step-daughters-Nannette Crosser of Eldora, Iowa; and Melissa Eller of Eldora, Iowa

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband James Rowen.
