Juanita Virginia (Diamond) Hovick, age 84, of Ames, Iowa, passed away on September 19, 2022, and Mill Pond Care Center. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Abels Funeral & Cremation Service – Creps Chapel in Eldora, Iowa. A visitation will take place Wednesday, September 28, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Abels Funeral & Cremation Service – Creps Chapel. A private burial will take place at Eldora Cemetery.
Juanita was born September 19, 1938, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Otis and Viola (Hawks) Diamond. She grew up on a farm near Whitten, Iowa. She was baptized April of 1955 in the Christian faith at the Church of Christ in Whitten, Iowa. Juanita graduated from Union-Whitten High School in 1956.
Juanita married David Baker in 1958. From this union came 2 children, Mark and Connie Baker. Throughout her career she worked as a bookkeeper and secretary in various businesses. On October 29, 1996, she married Raymond Hovick. She was a member of Elim Lutheran Church in Randall, Iowa, where she served as church secretary. She also served as vice president of RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) and secretary of Scandia West Ltd, Inc. in Story City, Iowa. For many years she served as volunteer coordinator at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa. During her lifetime she enjoyed her role as a homemaker, her family, golf, sporting events, cooking, sewing, and quilting.
She is survived by her son Mark Baker and his wife, Shannon, And their 4 children, McKinley, Charlotte, Maxwell, and Jackson of Cedar Rapids, IA; daughter, Connie Howe and her husband, Garry of Ankeny, IA and their children, Nathaniel, Benjamin, Zechariah, and Gracie; 2 step-daughters, Sharon Gabrielson and her husband Gary of Ames, IA; Thelma Ness and her husband, Gerald of Huxley, IA; 2 step-sons, Ronald Hovick and his wife Virginia Hovick of Cape Coral, FL; Joel Hovick and his wife, Lisa of rural Story City, IA; 1 step daughter-in-law, Mary Hovick of Midland, MI. Juanita is also survived by 18 step-grandchildren and 32 step-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, 2 brothers, Roy Diamond of Conrad, IA; Ray Diamond of Eldora, IA; 2 sisters, Geneva Emmertt of Eldora, IA and Ann Eygabroad of Marshalltown, IA; 2 brothers-in-law, Dale Sapp and Earl (Babe) Eygabroad, and 2 sisters-in-law, Rada Diamond and Bertha Diamond; and 2 step-sons, Marvin Hovick and Dennis Hovick.
