Josephine Doris Flater, 89 of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday, April 6, 2007, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., at that time the family will be greeting friends at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Tom Bower officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established.
Josephine Doris Flater was born February 23, 1918, in Pleasant Valley Township in Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of Joe D. and Kathryn (Haren) Meester. Josephine attended rural school at Pleasant Valley #7 Township. Josephine was united in marriage to Chris Flater on December 26, 1938 in her parent?s home, in Pleasant Valley Township. Josephine worked for Plastonics for about 7 years before she went to work as a nurse?s aide at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. All this time she was still working as a farm wife on the family farm. She has been a Grundy County resident her entire life. She is a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center and the #353 Sunset Rebeca Lodge.
Josephine is survived by her 5 sons: Jack and wife Georgia Flater of Marshalltown, Iowa, Rodney and wife Linda Flater of Kansas City, Missouri, Jay and wife Maxine Flater of Grundy Center, Iowa, Roger and wife Susan Flater of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Jerry and wife Kris Flater of Runnels, Iowa; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; a sister: Gladys Van Deest of Grundy Center, Iowa;
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband Chris Flater on April 10, 1983; parents: Joe D. and Kathryn Meester; 2 brothers: Daniel and Harold Meester.
