Joseph Carpio Giannetto, 92, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. A mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, November 30, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora at 10:30AM. A visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 9AM. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery with American Legion Post #182 presenting honors. Memorials may be directed to the family. Creps-Abels Funeral Home is taking care of Joe and his family.
Joe was born on May 27, 1925 to his parents Carl and Katherine (Piazza) Giannetto in Marshalltown, Iowa. Joe attended grade school at St Mary’s up to the 8th grade. Joe enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country honorably during the Second World War. Joe was united in marriage to Dorothy Sorenson on June 22, 1947 in Newton, Iowa. Joe and Dorothy had two children Barry and Judie. Joe worked at the John Deere dealership in Union, Iowa, eventually purchasing it and owning it for over 40 years. Joe enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was known to enjoy playing card games and gambling at the casinos.
Joe is survived by his son Barry Giannetto of Union, IA; grandchildren Shannon (Jodi) Clark of Reinbeck, IA, Angie (Tim) Klaver of Eldora, IA, John (Tanya) Clark of Currituck, NC, and Carrie (Jason) Baier of Huxley, IA; great grandchildren Alex (Moriah) Clark, Jackson, Chase, Bryce, Colton, Kathryn, Naomi, Hudson, and Macklin Clark, Reagan and Ryan Clark, William, Benjamin, Joshua and Olivia Baier; great-great grandson Greyson Clark. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Judie, and siblings Louis, Nick, Tony, Frank, Mary, and Carmella.
