Johnny M. Sly, 67, of Eldora, Iowa died on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Memorial services will be at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora is in charge of the arrangements.
Johnny was born December 1, 1942, near Lamoni, Iowa, son of Francis and Ardis (Paste) Sly. He was raised and educated in Lamoni and after several moves, moved to the Eldora area in the mid 1960s. Johnny was a Vietnam Veteran serving as a M.P. with the U.S. Army being stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii in the late 1960s. He was an over-the-road truck driver, driving since he was 16 years old and he retired ten years ago due to his health. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
He is survived by children, Bonnie Felix of Kansas City, Kansas, Mark (Stacy) Sly of Fountain, Colorado, Michell (Rick) McCurdy of Pawnee, Kansas, John B. Sly of Eldora, and Jason (Amber) Sly of Holland, Iowa; sisters, Feryl (Ron) Bouchard and Sheryl (Eugene) Schmitt; brothers, Lee (Bernice) Sly, Doug Sly, Ken (Linda) Sly, Bob Sly, and Larry (Toni) Sly; and by twelve grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gene Sly.
