John Langfitt

John R. Langfitt, 59, of Eldora, died at his home in Eldora on Wednesday, February 9, 2011. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the Eldora United Methodist Church with Pastor James Key officiating. Burial will follow in the Eldora City Cemetery. John Roger Langfitt was born March 18, 1951 in Emmetsburg, Iowa, son of Albert and Frances (Koenck) Langfitt. He was raised in Emmetsburg and New Providence, Iowa graduating from New Providence High School with the class of 1969. On November 24, 1973 John was united in marriage to Lynda Sue Travis at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora. To this union was born two daughters, Erin and Megan. John was employed as a cottage parent at the Iowa State Training School for Boys in Eldora for 27 years.

John was a proud papa to his three granddaughters, Daisy, McKenna, and Paige; and he enjoyed tinkering in the garage, finding hidden treasures, and collecting coins.

Surviving are his daughters, Erin (Erich) Harksen of Cedar Rapids, IA and Megan (Kevin) Bruns of Coggon, IA; sisters, Shirley (Ned) Toponce of Utah, Alberta (Bill) Hansen of Washington, and Arlene Kempf of Washington; brothers, Ernest (Cheryl) of Ocheydan, IA, Jim of Harris, IA, Richard of Sheldon, IA, Leonard (Judy) of Goldfield, and Alan of Sibley, IA; and by his grand-daughters, Paige Harksen and Daisy and McKenna Bruns. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lynda on June 14, 1997; and by brothers, Herman and Eugene.
