John Harms, 93, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa died on Friday, June 04, 2010 at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley , Iowa . Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, June 7, 2010 at the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church in Steamboat Rock, Iowa with Pastor Harrison Lippert officiating. Burial will follow at the Steamboat Rock Cemetery . Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the service. Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora is in charge of the arrangements.





John was born on a farm near the former town of Abbott , Iowa , rural Cleves , son of William and Kate (Folkerts) Harms. He was raised and educated in country school and in April of 1945 was united in marriage to Gladys Mae Kosanke at the First Baptist Church of Eldora. They made their home near Cleves where they farmed until John retired at the age of 62. He was a member of Steamboat Rock Baptist Church , the Steamboat Rock Boat Club, and a founding member of the Smokey Ridge Muzzle-Loader Club. He enjoyed the outdoors hunting and shooting, and was also interested in single cylinder engines and the railroad, taking several trips by rail.





John is survived by a son, Jerili Harms of Iowa Falls; daughter, Judy Sweezy and her husband Dan of Denver, Colorado; granddaughter, Kali Ferguson and her husband Ryan; grandson, Mitchell Roth; and great-granddaughter, Skylar Ferguson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys on December 7, 1995; an infant daughter, Katy Lu; and sisters, Grace Thoms and Louise Iakes.
