Joan Marie Walker, 86, of Hubbard, Iowa, formerly of Eldora, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Burial will follow at the Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Joan was born on August 26, 1930 to her parents Lee B. Henry, Sr. and Matilda (Augustine) Henry. She was raised in Keota, Iowa and graduated from Keota High School in the Class of 1948. Joan then graduated from the Ottumwa Beauty School in 1949. She worked in Ottumwa as a licensed beautician until she was united in marriage to Marvin E. Walker on November 17, 1953. They relocated to Marshalltown, Iowa where she also worked as a beautician until they settled in Eldora, Iowa where they raised their three daughters. Marvin passed away on December 1, 1974. Joan owned and operated her own business in Eldora, named Joan's Beauty Salon, until her retirement in 1996.

Joan was a long-time member of the Eldora United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Eastern Star. Joan loved music and dancing. She enjoyed many years of ballroom dancing with her husband and even continued to enjoy dancing after Marvin's passing. She enjoyed being in her kitchen cooking and baking for her family. Joan loved to be outdoors in the sun, especially while tending her flower garden. Joan was a joyful person with a wonderful sense of humor, who made everyone she met feel special. Her true joy in life came from spending time with her daughters and her grandchildren.

Joan is survived by her daughters Marsha (Brent) Ewoldt of Eldora, Iowa, Brenda (Todd) Schneiderman of Aplington, Iowa and Joy (Todd) Fisher of Iowa Falls, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister Janis Larson; nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marvin; brother Lee B. Henry, Jr.; sister-in-law Lorene Henry and brother-in-law Robert Larson.
