Jerry Eugene Donner, 84, of Eldora, passed away on Friday, October 10th at the Friendship Haven Nursing Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 15th at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldora with Father Tony Kruse officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14th from 5 to 7:30 PM at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home where there will be a 5:00 vigil service. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow Mass at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Eldora. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Jerry was born on his family's century farm on March 27, 1930 in Eldora, Iowa, the son of Daniel J. & Helen (Huber) Donner. He attended school in Eldora, graduating from the Eldora High School in 1948. On August 16, 1952, Jerry was united in marriage to Betty Ann Klaver. The couple welcomed three sons into their family. Jerry worked as a farmer and farmed on the family farm in Eldora until his retirement. In addition to farming, he worked part time at the Hardin County Assessor's office and worked for the local ASC measuring beans and corn. Farming was Jerry's lifelong passion. He dedicated his life to farming and it never left his spirit.
He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldora. Jerry enjoyed golfing, where he and his wife Betty and their friends enjoyed playing at the South Hardin Recreation Area in Union. He also enjoyed playing cards but what Jerry enjoyed most in life was spending time with his family and his life on the farm.
Jerry is survived by his three sons, Ted (Kay) of Baytown, Texas, Tom (Linda) of Fort Dodge, Iowa & Tonny (Karen) of Flower Mound, Texas; 5 grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren; brother Glenn (Ruth) Donner of Eldora. He was preceded in death by his parents and the love of his life, wife Betty Ann.
