Jeanne Plager, 89, of Grundy Center, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit of natural causes. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, June 12, 2008, at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center with Rev. Matthew Miller officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 11, 2008, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Engelkes ? Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the family, or to Cedar Valley Hospice or to the United Methodist Church. Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Lois Jeanne Plager was born in rural Conrad, Iowa the daughter of Charlie and Marie (Clifford) Sharp on August 1, 1918. She was raised in the Conrad area graduating from the Conrad High School in 1936. Jeanne then went to school at A.I. B. in Des Moines, Iowa. Jeanne then worked in the Grundy County Courthouse prior to her marriage to A. Eugene Plager on August 17, 1939 in Conrad, Iowa. Jeanne worked as the United Methodist Church secretary for 15 years under Pastors Sparks, Bryant, and Latta. Jeanne was a 66 year member of the Grundy Center United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Grundy Center Women?s Club, a past Matron of the Eastern Star, Past President of Chapter A R P.E.O. where she was a 67 year member. Jeanne was an active member of the Republican Party and various other church and community groups.
Jeanne is survived by three daughters: Sally and husband Duane Nevenhoven of Aplington, Iowa, Nancy and husband Dennis Dolmage of Grundy Center, Iowa and Shirley and husband Gary Mulford of Rochester, Minnesota; 8 grandchildren Greg and Melody Nevenhoven of Aplington, Todd and Melissa Nevenhoven of Waukee, Iowa, Sarah and Steve Bergamo of Urbandale, Iowa; Anne Dolmage of West Des Moines, Iowa, Allison and Craig Pierce of Ferryville, Wisconsin Marissa Mulford of Chicago, Illinois, Zachary Mulford of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and Drew Mulford of Rochester, Minnesota; 6 great grandchildren: Tyler and Tayler Nevenhoven of Aplington, Iowa; Courtney and Madison Nevenhoven of Waukee, Iowa and Lillian and Nicholas Bergamo of Urbandale, Iowa; a brother: Jim and wife Virginia Sharp of Conrad, Iowa; a sister: Barbara and husband George Hooper of Conrad, Iowa and a sister in law: Dottie Plager of Waterloo, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother: Charles Sharp; and her husband: A. Eugene Plager on December 28, 1997.
