Jeanette J. Folkerts, 84, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa died Thursday, December 31, 2015 at the Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Steamboat Rock Baptist Church in Steamboat Rock, Iowa with Pastor Harrison Lippert officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Steamboat Rock Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church.
Jeanette Joyce Zimmerman, daughter of Raymond and Ruth Johnson Zimmerman was born on April 20, 1931 in Freeport, Illinois. She received her education in Freeport where she graduated in 1949 from Freeport High School. Following her education, she worked as a secretary for Rawleigh Inc. for 4 years. On October 8, 1954 she married George R. Folkerts in Baileyville, Illinois. The couple resided near Steamboat Rock on a farm 1 ½ miles east of George's parent's farm until March of 1955 when they moved to the family farm. In January of 1996, the couple moved into Steamboat Rock. Jeanette was a member of the Steamboat Rock Baptist Church where she was active in DORCAS women's group. She was a past Sunday school teacher, AWANA volunteer and especially loved volunteering in the church nursery. Jeanette also enjoyed cooking, gardening and flowers.
Survivors include her loving husband of 61 years, George R. Folkerts of Steamboat Rock, IA; her children, Randall (Sandy) Folkerts of Aplington, IA, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Folkerts of Steamboat Rock, IA, Kathy Wood of Holland, IA, Rodney (Andrea) Folkerts of Chehalis, WA; grandchildren, Charis Folkerts of Rochester, MN, Isaac and John Folkerts both of Billingham, WA, Abraham and Elisabeth Folkerts both of Aplington, IA, Nathaniel Folkerts of Holland, IA; and her brother, Keith (Rachel) Zimmerman of Johnson City, IL.
In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her daughter in infancy, Bonnie Jean Folkerts.
