Jeanette "Janet" Flater, 88 of Holland, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in Grundy Center while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg, Iowa with Pastor Michael Weaver officiating. Burial to will follow at Wellsburg Reformed Cemetery in Wellsburg. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 8 pm on Friday, June 17, 2011, at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice in Janet's name.
Janet was born July 29, 1922, in Wellsburg, Iowa the daughter of Aise and Trientje (Bruns) Rust. She grew up in the Wellsburg area and attended Palermo #4 school until the eighth grade .Janet worked for Rath Packing from 1945-1946. Janet was united in marriage to John Frank Flater on June 20, 1946 at the Reformed Church of Wellsburg. Three children were born to this union, Arnold, Ardell and Arlys. Janet lived on the Rust home farm until 1946. After her marriage she moved to the Flater farm with John where she lived till entering Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care on May 13, 2011. Janet enjoyed working in her garden, making quilts, bowling and sewing for her children and grandchild. She loved spending time with her family and friends. But most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Janet was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church.
She is survived by her children, Arnold "AJ" and significant other Rita Sommers of Holland, IA, Ardell Sailer and her husband, Martin of Hinton, Iowa, Arlys Strub and significant other Jerry Mondoux, of Alpharetta, GA, 4 grand children, 5 great-grandchildren and one on the way; 3 sisters-in-law, Verdene Rust, Greta Flater, Esther Frieling and brother-in-law, John Olthoff.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, John; brothers, Harm Rust, Raymond Rust and sister-in-law Delores Olthoff.
