Jean Loots

Jean Loots, 88, a resident of Creekside Cottages in Grundy Center passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020 while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice.

Funeral service for Jean will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the St. John Lutheran Church located in Wellsburg, Iowa with Pastor Bruce Zimmermann officiating.  Public visitation will be held one hour prior to services.  Jean will be laid to rest at the Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg immediately following services. Shirley “Jean” Loots was born May 23, 1932 in Washington, Iowa to Burl and Dorothy (Lester) Pringle.  Jean and her parents moved to a farm near Thornburg, Iowa in 1939.  She graduated in 1950 from Thornburg High School.  Jean continued her education at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois graduating in 1954 with a degree in education.  After graduation Jean taught 3rd grade in Waverly, Iowa and after 3 years moved with friends to Long Beach, California and continued teaching.

On December 28, 1963 Jean was united in marriage to Eldon Loots of Wellsburg, Iowa. Jean and Eldon made their home in Wellsburg where they were co-owners and operators of Farmers Produce until 1994 when they retired.

Eldon died in 1994 and in 2002 Jean moved to Arlington Place in Grundy Center where she made her home until January of 2019 when she moved to Creekside Nursing home also in Grundy Center.  She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Wellsburg.

Jean enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family and was always ready to go out for lunch.  She never missed a chance to play cards or dominos.  Jean was the best with taking pictures and making scrap books.  She will be missed by her many friends and family.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
