Janice LaVonne Anway, 90, of Eldora, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. Funeral service and burial will be held privately by the family.
Janice was born on October 2, 1920, to George and Emma (Bessman) Newhall, the second of four children. Janice attended rural schools through the eighth grade, her first years near Radcliffe, Iowa and the remaining in Maple Grove and Iowa Falls, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Iowa Falls in 1939. During high school and after, she worked for several businesses in Iowa Falls and for a short period of time in Colfax, Iowa. Janice then went on to a vocational school in Crawfordville, Indiana. Upon graduating, she was employed by the Western Union Telegraph Company for a number of years as a relay manager working in several states.
In June 1950, she was married to Kenneth Anway in Omaha, Nebraska. They moved to Eldora, where in 1950, Kenneth had started and operated the Anway Floral Shop, known now as Eldora Flowers and Gifts. They owned and operated the flower shop for 26 years. Kenneth then farmed on their farm southeast of Eldora, until he passed away in 1992.
Janice was a life member of the Lutheran Church, member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and a former member of the BPW Club.
Janice loved her family and enjoyed being with them and treasured friends. She is survived by her brother Lowell (Marrian) Newhall; nephew Russell (Rebecca) Newhall; niece Marcia Newhall Roll; great-niece Alicia; great-nephew Thomas; great-great nephew Willhelm; sister-in-law Kathleen Newhall; brother-in-law Harold Zorn; cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth; sister Marlys who passed away in 2006 and brother George Kenneth Newhall, who passed away in 2010.
