Jane D. Primus, 83, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, died from natural causes on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley, Iowa. Jane's body has been donated to The University of Iowa College of Medicine for scientific purposes. Memorial services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora with Pastor Corey Larson officiating. Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Friends of Pine Lake and will be used for playground equipment for Pine Lake State Park.
Jane was born May 31, 1924, in North English, Iowa, daughter of Lawrence and Verna (Suman) Davis. She was raised in Greene, Iowa where she graduated from High School then continued her education at Iowa State University receiving a BA in home economics. On August 23, 1955 Jane was united in marriage to Paul Primus at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora. They made their home in the Steamboat Rock-Eldora area. She taught home economics in Oskaloosa for several years before marriage then was employed as a home economist through the Iowa State Extension Service before working as a Home Health Care Aid for Hardin, Hamilton and Webster Counties. She retired in the mid 1970's.
She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora, a 65 year member of PEO, and a 50 year member of the Progress Club of Steamboat Rock. Jane enjoyed writing poetry and was involved in writing a cookbook with several other area women.
Surviving is Jane's husband, Paul; sons, Kenneth (Kristi) Primus of Steamboat Rock and Don (Rosanne) Primus of Eldora; sister, S.E. Davis of Sarasota, Florida; and grandchildren, Jordan and Bailey. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Shadrack Davis; and sister, Helen Dell.
