James Pieters

James A. Pieters, 73, of Holland, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Following cremation, a memorial service will be at 10:30 am Saturday, December 11, 2010, at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, Iowa with Pastor Tom Bower officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2010, at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Burial will take place at a later date. James was born November 11, 1937 at home in Ackley, IA, to Leo and Henrietta (Noordman) Pieters. The family later moved to Steamboat Rock, IA, then to Reinbeck, IA where he attended school and graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1956. On February 15, 1957, he was united in marriage to Janelle LeAnn Harken at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. James worked at a Dayco Industries retiring in 2000. After his retirement James drove school bus for AE267, he enjoyed driving the students to Waterloo. He was a member of the Grundy County Cattlemen's Association serving as treasurer, Pine Lake Saddle Club and Interfaith Men's Chorus. James was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, trustee and Elder. He enjoyed doing dishes at the church on Wednesday evenings, trail riding and Bluegrass music. James enjoyed being with family and friends, and most of all being with his devoted wife Janelle.

He is survived by his wife Janelle, two daughters, Janice (Steven) Craven of Goose Creek, SC, and Jill (Jamie) Westcott of Lohrville, IA; son, Jay (Tana) Pieters of Waverly, 5 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Leland (Bev) Pieters of Steamboat Rock, IA, Howard (Jan) Pieters of Amarillo, TX, Dean (Carol) Pieters of West Des Moines, IA and a sister, Sheryl (Dave) Mull of Steamboat Rock, IA.

He is preceded in death by his parents, paternal and maternal grandparents.
