James Miller

April 9, 1919 — December 20, 2012

James E. Miller 93, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, December 24, 2012, at United Church of Christ in Reinbeck, Iowa, with Pastor Joel Love officiating. Burial will follow at the Reinbeck Cemetery in Reinbeck. Visitation will be Sunday, December 23, 2012, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. Memorials may be made to the Reinbeck Fire Department.
James was born on April 9, 1919 in Aplington, Iowa, to his parents Jacob and Johannah (Riebkes) Miller. He grew up living in Ackley, Wellsburg and Morrison areas. James attended rural country schools. After school he helped on the farm before entering the Army in October 15 1946 and serving his country stationed in Korea till his discharge on May 31, 1947.
James and Marcella (Sally) Bossman were united in marriage on September 25, 1946 in Marshalltown, IA. They made their home on a farm outside of Reinbeck and welcomed four children to their family. He retired in 1981 and moved to Reinbeck. James enjoyed collecting toy tractors, playing cards and traveling the United States.
James was member of the American Legion Action Post #242, and a member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ. He will be missed and long remembered by his friends and family.
James is survived by his children Steve (Jan) Miller of Waterloo, IA, Jack Miller (Jayne Thede) of Reinbeck, IA, Rosemary (Tom) Lang of Grundy Center, Karen Miller of Reinbeck; his grandchildren Jenn (Jeff) Dahm of Iowa City and Aaron (Missy) Miller of Cedar Falls, Julie Lang of Cedar Rapids and Mike Lang (Erin Higgins) of Grundy Center; 4 great-grandchildren Gavin, Ethan and Ainsley Miller and Isaac Lang; sisters Caroline (Kelly) Lamb of Owensboro, KY and Arvilla Smith of California
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Marcella.
