Ed was born June 12, 1923 to James Howard and Edith (Seward) Faris on the Keller farm near Hubbard, Iowa. He was the oldest of four children and attended school at Chester in rural New Providence, graduating from New Providence High School in 1941. He served in the United States Navy in the Pacific during WWII. Ed returned to New Providence to farm and met Mary Tucker, marrying her on April 4, 1948 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. Anthony, Iowa. They are the parents of five children.
Ed enjoyed bird-watching from his easy chair. Spring brought the excitement of the hunt for a new crop of mushrooms. He loved to garden and shared the bounty of his harvest with friends and neighbors. There were numerous cream can dinners and breakfasts served at Reece Park and Gifford. He spent hours working in his woodworking shop, serving as tour guide for many visiting hunters, watching the eagles, and always had a good story to tell. He greatly enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow. He was a member of St. Marya(TM)s Catholic Church and the Union American Legion.
