August 22, 1973 — February 25, 2014

Jacqueline "Jackie" Derrick, 40, of Dike, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at her home in Dike while under the care of Unity Point Hospice, following a lengthy illness. Her family will be celebrating her life with a memorial visitation on Sunday, March 2nd from 2 to 4:30 P.M. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, 509 4th St., Grundy Center, IA. A private service for Jackie will be held immediately following the visitation. Inurnment will be private. Memorials may be made in her name to the Cedar Bend Humane Society, 1166 W. Airline Highway, Waterloo, IA 50703.

Jackie was born on August 22, 1973 in Moline, IL, the daughter of Jack & Doloris (Yeager) Derrick. In 1979, Jackie and her family moved to Iowa, living in Waterloo for some years and then relocated to Grundy County in 1994. Jackie attended school in Waterloo, graduating from Waterloo West High School with the class of 1992. She went on to further her education at Hawkeye Community College where she obtained her 2 year Associate's Degree. She worked for VGM in Waterloo for the past 10 years.

She enjoyed animals and horseback riding. Jackie was very creative and turned that into craft making. She would make personalized cards and Christmas ornaments. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Jackie had a zest for life and although she was challenged physically in some ways, that never got in her way of living life to its fullest. She was a true joy and inspiration to not only her family and friends, but all those who came to know her.

She is survived by her parents Jack & Dee Derrick of Reinbeck; fiancé Dale Slight of Dike; brother Jason (Tamra) Derrick of Grundy Center; nephew & niece Austin & Reagan Derrick; paternal grandmother Ethel Derrick of Geneseo, IL & maternal grandmother Bobbie Yeager ¬¬¬¬of Rock Island, IL; many aunts, uncles, cousins & special friends. Jackie was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Jack Derrick & maternal grandfather George Yeager.
