Jacobus Hemmen, 89, of Dike, died on Sunday, April 23, 2006 at Maple Manor Care Center in Aplington, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Wycliffe Bible Translators, P.O. Box 628200, Orlando, Florida, 32862-822.



Jacobus was born January 11, 1917, at home in Aplington, Iowa, son of Hayo and Fannie (Karsjens) Hemmen. Jacobus grew up and was raised in the Aplington area. On January 8, 1946 he was united in marriage to Esther Ethel Meester. After their marriage the couple moved to the Dike area and farmed there. Esther passed away on April 24, 1986. Jacobus was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout where he served as an elder, on the consistory, a youth advisor and on the Men?s Brotherhood. Jacobus had a personal relationship with the Lord and enjoyed fellowship with other Christians. Jacobus really enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He liked to travel and fish.



Surviving are his children: Norma and husband Don Adams of Dike, Iowa, Delbert and wife Sandy Hemmen of Dike, Iowa, Nancy and husband Ray Hemmer of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Noreen and husband Darrel Folkerts of Allison, Iowa, Denise and husband Gary Abbas of Allison, Iowa, and Debra and husband John Scott of Marion, Iowa; 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.



He is preceded in death by his wife: Esther; a granddaughter: Nicole Thorne; parents: Heyo and Fannie Hemmen; 2 brothers: Herman and Bill Hemmen.
