Iva Bright

August 13, 1912 — June 3, 2013

Iva Mae Bright slipped quietly into the hands of her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 3. Born on August 13, 1912, she had lived a full and productive life of 100 years, nine months and 21 days.

Iva Mae was the daughter of John LeRoy and Allie Rae (Townsend) Starr. Born on the family farm in Jackson Township, she lived in Hardin County her entire life.
Her education began in country school at Jackson # 7 and continued at Eldora High School. Upon completing the Normal Training course she taught school at Roughwoods Country School for eight years.

On November 24, 1938 she was united in marriage to Arthur Edwin Bright. This was the day she called "the best day of my life".

The couple started farming west of the Training School and moved back to the family farm in March of 1945. They farmed together until Art died on July 4, 1961. Iva Mae continued farming and raising their children until 1967. At that time she joined 1st National Bank in Eldora as head teller, where she worked until her retirement in 1977.

After her employed retirement she maintained an active lifestyle, gardening, canning and baking thousands of loaves of "Grandma bread". She was known as the "Rose Lady" providing roses to her family and neighbors at Valley View.

She knit untold numbers of afghans, created quilts for all children and grandchildren. The family Christmas trees are all decorated with her hand-made ornaments.

She is survived and missed by her four children: Margaret (LeRoy) Thomsen, Dean Bright, Janet (Darrel) Heetland and Cathy Bright (James Morris); ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, with another due in December.

Iva Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husband Art and her three sisters – Ardis Starr, Margaret Milroy and Gladys Canham.

Services will be held in Eldora at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Friday, June 7 at 10 AM with Pastor David Splett Officiating. Visitation will be at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora on Thursday evening from 4 to 7 PM. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
