Irma Lutterman

June 11, 1921 — September 11, 2006

Irma E. Lutterman, 85, of Wellsburg, Iowa, died Monday, September 11, 2006, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 13, 2006, at St. John Lutheran Church, in Wellsburg, Iowa, with Pastor Bruce Zimmermann officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg, with full military rites provided by the Wellsburg AMVETS Post No. 91 and American Legion Post No. 213. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 12, 2006, from 5:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Memorials may be directed to the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.

Irma was born June 11, 1921, at home in rural Butler County, Iowa, the daughter of Luke J. and Grace H. (Getting) Groninga. Irma graduated from Parkersburg High School and then attended Evangelical Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown, for nurse's training, from 1939 to 1942, graduating with her nursing degree. Irma served as a Lieutenant Nurse in the United States Army during World War II, serving her country from January 6, 1943 and was honorably discharged on October 25, 1945.

On April 17, 1948, Irma was united in marriage to Laurence B. "Hap" Lutterman at the Pleasant Valley Evangelical United Brethren Church in rural Wellsburg. After their marriage, they made their home in Wellsburg. Irma worked as a nurse for a doctor in Wellsburg, as well as various nursing homes and hospitals. She retired from nursing in the mid 1970's. Irma's husband Laurence died on September 4, 2001. Irma had been a member of the Helping Hands, and also the Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, and was especially fond of her time spent in Whitehorse, Canada. Irma loved her grandchildren very much.

She is survived by her son Dave Lutterman and his wife Darlene of Wellsburg, Iowa; her daughter Sheila Bohr and her husband John of Waterloo, Iowa; five grandchildren Jamie Lutterman, Brianne Lutterman, Carson Lutterman, Joanne Averhoff, and Joe Bohr; five step-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law Gwen Groninga of Wellsburg; Iowa; Alma Lutterman of Holland, Iowa; Barbara Groninga of Edmond, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother Edith Groninga; her husband Laurence; one daughter Tricia Katherine Lutterman; and two brothers Virgil and Durwood ?Bud? Groninga.
