Irene A. Ziesman, 91, of Eldora, Iowa died on Monday, May 14, 2012 at Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Friday, May 18, 2012 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Visitation is from 5 pm to 8 pm on Thursday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Good Shepherd Pre-School or the St. Paul Lutheran Church Social Room Fund.
Irene was born March 23, 1921 in Eldora, Iowa, daughter of Frank and Hattie (Lettow) Balvanz. She graduated from Eldora High School where she became certified as a Normal School Teacher. She helped new mothers at home for a few years after high school then taught at Meeker Country School for a couple of years. On August 18, 1946 Irene was united in marriage to Albert C.W. Ziesman at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora. Irene and Albert farmed in Hardin County their entire married lives.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was confirmed and married and also had sewn quilts for world relief, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She had served on the County Extension Board for a year and the Farm Bureau Board for 3 years. She was a member of the Farm Bureau Ladies for many years and also served many years as treasure for the 50 Plus Club and secretary for the Lettow family reunion.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Kruger and her husband, Eldon of Holland, Iowa; son, Roger Ziesman and his wife, Sharon of Eldora; sister, Janet Bradford of Bakersfield, California; brother, Marvin "Mick" Balvanz of Eldora and his wife Joan; sisters-in-law, Ruth, Mary, and Doris Balvanz, and Laura Lange and Reba Wehrman; brother-in-law, Edward (Ione) Ziesman; and by 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert on March 7, 2007; brothers, Robert, Harold, Donald and Kenneth Balvanz; and by sisters, Viola German and Betty Roll.
