Irene G. Henning, 88, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, Friday, August 31 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will follow in the Eldora City Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.
Irene was born February 14, 1919, in Newark, England, daughter of James W. and Lilian M. (Jeal) Shaw. She graduated from high school in Newark and then attended business school for two years. She met her husband to be, Robert Earl Henning, while Robert was stationed in England with the U.S. Air Force, and on November 14, 1944 they were united in marriage. Irene came to Eldora to be with her husband in 1946 and in 1956 she became a United States citizen. Irene was employed as a book-keeper for Dayco Products for 20 years retiring in 1981. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and enjoyed reading mysteries and walking.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Henning and his wife Sandy of Eldora; sister-in-law, Evelyn (Floyd) Reinert of Cherokee, Iowa; nephew, Mike Wilson and family of Ames, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews in England. Preceding her in death was her husband, Robert on May 15, 1998; her parents; and by four brothers and two sisters.
