Howard Clingerman

Howard Warren Clingerman, age 94, of Eldora, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the Valley View Nursing & Rehab Center in Eldora, while under the care of Iowa Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 22, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Eldora, Iowa. Burial will follow at the Eldora City Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Iowa Hospice or the First Baptist Church in Eldora, Iowa.
Howard was the youngest of 8 children. He was born on August 22, 1918 the son of Joseph C. and Maud (Clause) Clingerman. Howard was raised and educated in Eldora and graduated with the Eldora High School Class of 1939.
Howard worked with the Nehring Brothers Carpentry Crew; Vinton Egg & Produce Company in Eldora; the Eldora Greenhouse; Rogers Saw Mill & Eastlawn Cemetery for two years and International Feeds for two years. Howard worked for Payless Cashways Lumber Yard in Iowa Falls for 20 years and retired in 1983.
Howard was united in marriage to Ruth Marie Hoyt on May 28, 1948 at the First Baptist Church in Eldora, Iowa. They lived in NW Eldora for 8 years before buying their current home which is located just one block north of where he was born and raised.
Howard always enjoyed gardening which grew into "truck gardening" and later participation in Farmers Markets in Eldora and Iowa Falls for 25 years.
He exhibited at the Hardin County Fair. In his youth he exhibited chickens and later in life flowers and vegetables. Howard was the superintendent of the Horticulture Department for 50 years.
Howard was a charter member of the Eldora Kiwanis Club for 15 years and a member of the First Baptist Church in Eldora. He sang in the church choir, in a quartet and did many solos at the church. He also sang for funeral services from the late 1940's until the mid-1960's.
Howard is survived by his wife Ruth; his children Allan (Rebecca) Clingerman of Aurora, CO, Brenda Clingerman of Centennial, CO, Curtis Clingerman of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Daryl Clingerman of Eldora, IA; grandsons Bryce and Colton Clingerman; granddaughters Kelli (Heston) Frey and Brianne (David) Edwards; and great-grandson Landon Frey. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ernest, John, Wilbur, Paul and Everett Clingerman; and sisters Winona Perry and Hazel Nehring.
