Homer A. Long, 89, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Grundy Care Center. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.
Homer was born on April 6, 1929, in rural Grundy Center to his parents Ross and Vera (Clinite) Long. He was raised and educated in Grundy Center and graduated from the Grundy Center High School.
Homer was a Korean War veteran and worked as a farmer, raised livestock and earned a national championship for sheep. He was a judge at many State Fairs and an author of over three books all written in the last 20 years.
Homer is survived by his daughter Ruth (Mark) Tankersley of Kannapolis, NC; granddaughter Isabella Tankersley; sister Caroline Mann of Marshalltown, IA and nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Phyllis Ross and brothers Thomas & Carry Long.
