Hilda Perkins, 101, of Eldora, Iowa, died Saturday, March 4, 2006, at Valley View Nursing & Rehab Center in Eldora, Iowa. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora, with Pastor Corey Larson officiating. Burial will follow at Jackson Township Cemetery, rural Owasa, Iowa. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 8th one hour prior to service time from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the church. Memorials may be directed to First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora.

Hilda was born on August 22, 1904, in Etna Township, Hardin County, Iowa, the daughter of Jasper and Gertrude (Janssen) Mein. She was raised in Franklin and Hardin Counties, and received her education at Osceola Township #9 rural country school. On March 7, 1934, Hilda was united in marriage to Lester L. Perkins at the Christian Reformed Church, in Grundy County, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived for many years in rural Owasa and rural Eldora. In 1991, they moved to their daughter Patricia's home. On January 23, 1992, Hilda's husband Lester died. In December 1999, Hilda moved to Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora.

Hilda was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora since 1946. She was an active member, teaching Sunday School and also was involved in the Alfa Ladies Circle. She enjoyed her chickens and her large garden on the farm. She also loved to can the items from her garden every year.

She is survived by one brother Jake Mein and his wife Doris of Ottumwa, Iowa; one sister Zena Everett of Cabat, Arkansas; two sisters-in-law Nettie Mein of Zearing, Iowa; and Cora Perkins of Des Moines, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lester in 1992; one daughter Patricia L. Perkins; five sisters Ella Ubben, Grace Remmert, Annie Reinke, Tillie Pearce, and Gertrude Pohlman; and three brothers Albert, Jasper Jr., and Hilko Mein.
