Herman Carl Fredrick Lange, age 91 of Eldora departed life on Friday, February 4, 2011 at Valley View Nursing & Rehab Center. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, with Pastor David Splett officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will follow the funeral service at Cottage Cemetery in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.
Herman was born March 7, 1919, at the farm home of his parents in rural Buckeye, Iowa. He was the son of Carl John "Charlie" Lange and Emma Pauline (Steinfeldt) Lange. Herman attended a country school a short distance from his home and graduated the eighth grade. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Buckeye, Iowa. He later became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, Iowa. As a young man Herman helped his dad farm and would also help other farmers in the neighborhood during threshing season. In later years he farmed near Eldora, Iowa. As a second job at night he worked at Risse Miller later known as Ramco in Eldora, where he made hydraulic hoses. He worked at the two sale barns in Eldora. Herman's last job before "retiring" was at the Eldora HyVee as a janitor. He worked there 14 years retiring at the age of 82. He was married to Laura Ziesman on November 17, 1943 and to this union 5 children were born. They later divorced.
Herman loved being around people and was well known around Eldora; especially at the Pizza Ranch, Weathered Wheel and the Ahoy Fountain.
Herman is survived by 4 daughters, Gloria Doud of Tucson AZ, Jinny (Steve) Landt of Union, IA, Loretta Wunschel of Bentonville, AK, Terri Schick of Slater, IA and son, Kevin (Deb) Lange of Adel, IA; ten grandchildren, Shela (Blair) Little, Cara (Aaron) Baumann, Brian Wunschel, Nicole (Josh) Bowers, Erin and Adrienne Landt, Tera (Court) Jackson, Brittany Petersen, Lauren and Lindsey Lange; seven great-grandchildren; a brother Clarence (Evelyn) Lange of Iowa falls, IA; a sister, LaVonne Anderson of Arlington, TX and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Esther.
